Hotel Gaudí is found in the heart of Barcelona, which means it is surrounded by emblematic buildings like the Cathedral and mythic places like Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. Only step outside the hotel and you will find yourself facing Palau Güell, a modernist building constructed by the architect Antoni Gaudí as commissioned by his patron, Count Güell, in 1890. This building was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and its main attractions are the wrought-iron bars of its facade and the multicolored chimneys on the roof.
Climbing the Ramblas in the direction of Plaça Catalunya, nearby Hotel Gaudí, you will find two interesting buildings: the Gran Teatro del Liceu, Barcelona's opera theater, and La Boquería, a 2,000m2 market full of colorful stands selling all types of food.
On a sidestreet of Las Ramblas, you will also find the Palau de la Virreina, a baroque building that continuously hosts contemporary art expos.
At the end of Las Ramblas, you cannot miss the Plaça Catalunya: Barcelona's meeting point par excellence and the neural center of the city. Among many other sites of interest, here you will find the historic Café Zurich and a large commercial center with many brand-name shops.
The sea is also very close to Hotel Gaudí. If you turn and walk down Las Ramblas in the direction of the Columbus Monument, you will find yourself in Port Vell amidst a lively entertainment center: Maremagnum. If you prefer to visit historic buildings and museums, however, you can direct yourself to the La Ribera quarter, where you will find the Picasso Museum and the Santa María del Mar church, or even lose yourself in the streets of the Born quarter.
Other areas of interest are the streets in the Gothic Quarter, which have kept their medieval air intact despite the restaurants and stores that fill them. Once there, you must visit its Roman walls, the Plaça del Rei, Barcelona's Gothic cathedral, the church of Santa Maria del Pi and the Palau de la Generalitat, current center of Catalonia's autonomous government.
